Our turkeys arrive on the farm in June as day old chicks from the world renowned Kelly Turkeys. They are raised using traditional methods with great care and compassion until Christmas when they are fully mature.
The chicks are raised in a cosy barn under heat lamps until they are well feathered and strong enough to start exploring the great outdoors. Then we move them to a very spacious barn which is flooded with natural light and has access to the adjoining meadow. The barn is bedded with fresh straw daily and the environment enriched with hay bales for pecking and roosting. They have constant access to food and water at all times. The turkeys are shut in by night to keep them safe but during the day they are free to explore the meadow, where they enjoy grazing the fresh grass, taking dust baths, eating insects, scratching around or whatever they choose.
Our Cornish turkeys are fed on an all natural diet of home grown barley and pellets which they supplement with what they forage in the meadow. They are not given any antibiotics or growth hormones.
When Christmas approaches the turkeys are processed here on the farm where they are dry plucked by hand and are game hung for a minimum of 7 days which gives them their exemplary depth of flavour and distinctive dense meat. They are then hand finished and packed with herbs into special boxes ready for you to collect.
